Step into the story of Black Los Angeles with this immersive, founder-led experience through the Crenshaw District — a neighborhood rich with history, creativity, and cultural influence.
Hosted by A Great Day in South LA, this thoughtfully curated tour offers a deeper look at the people, places, and legacy that have shaped one of the most significant Black communities in the country. Designed for both visitors and locals, the experience blends history, architecture, entrepreneurship, and everyday community life through engaging, accessible storytelling.
Your journey begins with a guided drive from the LA Convention Center area into South Los Angeles, where the landscape shifts and the stories begin to unfold. As you travel through the Crenshaw corridor and surrounding neighborhoods, you’ll gain insight into the historical foundations of the area and its continued cultural impact today.
The experience is primarily van-based, allowing you to cover a wide range of locations, with curated stops to step out, walk, and take in the environment. Highlights include time in Leimert Park Village, the historic arts and cultural center of Black Los Angeles, as well as views of architecturally significant homes in View Park–Windsor Hills, often referred to as the “Black Beverly Hills.” Along the way, you’ll encounter murals, public art, legacy businesses, and cultural landmarks that reflect the identity and evolution of the community.
As part of the experience, you’ll also enjoy a locally sourced meal from Chef Marilyn’s, a beloved neighborhood staple known for its traditional soul food. This is not just a meal stop, but an extension of the cultural experience — highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit and culinary legacy of the corridor.
Throughout the tour, storytelling connects past and present, offering context, nuance, and a deeper understanding of Black Los Angeles beyond the headlines.
This is more than a tour — it’s an opportunity to experience the richness, complexity, and ongoing story of a community that continues to shape the cultural fabric of the city.
